Whilst an addiction to shopping may sound fairly mild and trivial, it is something that can escalate out of control very quickly and often without notice. During the periods of lockdown and tier systems in 2020 to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, online shopping has become increasingly popular. Throw into the mix the Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Boxing Day offers and adverts we get bombarded with, people can be easily overwhelmed by deals that can cause financial irresponsibility and distress. This little-known addiction that is easy to hide and doesn’t have obvious consequences at first glance has the possibility to escalate beyond control, particularly in the current environment.
